Differdange Receives “Senior-Friendly Municipality” Certification

The City of Differdange has been nationally recognized for its commitment to senior citizens.

On October 25, 2024, during the Third Age Forum, the City of Differdange was officially awarded the “Senior-Friendly Municipality” certificate by the Ministry of Family Affairs, Solidarity, Community Living and Reception.

An Innovative Project Honored

This recognition particularly highlights the Quartiertreff project, an initiative by the senior council that facilitates meetings with residents aged 60 and over in various neighborhoods throughout the city. This project benefits from financial support of €6,000, which will be used to produce a documentary film.

The Senior Council: A Voice for Our Elders

Since its establishment in 2021, the senior council has actively represented the interests of Differdange residents aged sixty and over. In 2025, a new dynamic is being implemented through the organization of neighborhood meetings.

Meeting Objectives

  • Gather seniors’ concerns
  • Collect their suggestions for improvement
  • Strengthen community cohesion in each neighborhood

A Concrete and Participatory Approach

The feedback collected during these meetings is directly transmitted to the municipal council and city services. The Senior Plus service ensures follow-up on recommendations and coordinates the implementation of feasible actions.

Valuing Our Human Heritage

In our municipality with its rich mining heritage and remarkable cultural diversity, senior involvement is invaluable for:

  • Knowledge transfer
  • Strengthening social cohesion
  • Sharing intergenerational experiences

The upcoming documentary will highlight realized initiatives and encourage more seniors to get involved in their neighborhood life.
