Inauguration of the Modernized Pétange Intermunicipal Wastewater Treatment Plant

The City of Differdange is pleased to announce the inauguration of the Pétange intermunicipal wastewater treatment plant, fully modernized and expanded after five years of major construction work.

This state-of-the-art infrastructure, managed by the Intermunicipal Syndicate for Sanitation of the Chiers Basin, has served the municipalities of Differdange, Käerjeng, Pétange and Sanem for thirty years.

With a total investment of 76.3 million euros, co-financed by the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Biodiversity, the treatment capacity has more than doubled, from 50,000 population equivalents to 115,000 PE. This modernization responds to the strong demographic and economic growth of our region.

The new plant incorporates the most advanced wastewater treatment technologies and is part of a sustainable development approach. Through methane recovery and the installation of solar panels, it already produces a significant portion of its energy.

This major project, which mobilized around fifty companies, positions our infrastructure among the highest performing in the country, thus ensuring the protection of our environment and the Chiers River for future generations.

Discover in video the behind the scenes of this exceptional achievement and the challenges overcome to complete this project while maintaining the continuous operation of the plant.
