Pedestrian bridge

You may have noticed if you have tried to reach the Avenue de la Liberté from the car park “Contournement”(Parking du contournement). The Road and Bridge Administration (Administration des ponts et chaussées) is currently carrying out work on the pedestrian bridge behind the new police station.

This work, which is currently at a preliminary stage and will result in occasional closures of the bridge, will have a significant impact from mid-November. During the weekend of 12-13 November 2021, the bridge will be completely dismantled. The structure does not comply with the safety standards that require a bridge over the railway to be built at a 90° angle to the rails. In addition, the current bridge is relatively low, which causes problems for passing trains.

After the removal of the bridge in a few weeks’ time, the bulk of the work will begin in November 2022 with the earthworks and the construction of the abutments, i.e. the buttresses that will support the future bridge. The new bridge will then be installed during the weekend of 7 to 10 May 2022. The concreting of the deck will continue until November 2022. The Road and Bridge Administration (Administration des ponts et chaussées) will bear the costs, which will amount to some € 500,000.

Impact on pedestrians

The bridge between the bypass and Avenue de la Liberté will be inaccessible for about a year, i.e. from 13 November 2021 to November 2022. The City of Differdange therefore recommends that you use the underground passage between Contournement and Rue du Chemin-de-Fer.
