Declaration of a dog

Any dog whose owner resides in the municipality must be registered against confirmation of payment with the Differdange customer service department.

To do this, you just have to fill in the form on the right with the requested annexes or go to the municipality’s customer service department with the following documents:

  • a certificate from the veterinarian pursuant to Article 3 (1) and 13 of the Law of 9 May 2008 on dogs;
  • a proof that an insurance contract has been concluded with an approved company guaranteeing the civil liability of the dog keeper for damage caused to third parties by the animal.

A change of owner or death of the dog must also be reported.

The tax on dogs is 40 € per year and per dog. Invoices are issued at the beginning of each year.

Special provisions for potentially dangerous dogs

The law of May 9, 2008 on dogs determines which dogs are likely to be dangerous. These are essentially:

  1. Staffordshire bull terrier dogs;
  2. Mastiff dogs; 
  3. American Staffordshire terrier dogs;
  4. dogs of the Tosa breed; 
  5. dogs similar in morphological characteristics to American Staffordshire terriers, commonly called “pit bulls”; 
  6. dogs similar in morphological characteristics to Mastiffs, commonly known as “boer-bulls”;
  7. dogs similar in morphological characteristics to Tosa dogs.

Owners of these dogs must attend training courses and the dogs must attend dog training courses. Within eighteen months of the dog’s birth, the dog’s keeper must submit to the municipal administration, against a receipt:

  • a diploma attesting to the dog’s successful completion of dog training courses
  • a diploma attesting to the owner’s successful completion of a training course
  • a veterinary certificate indicating the date of castration of the dogs referred to in points e) to g)
  • a receipt of the first declaration

Every keeper of a dog likely to be dangerous must at all times comply with the conditions laid down by law and must keep the valid receipt at the disposal of the agents responsible for enforcing the law.


 

Subsidy for the sterilization or castration of cats

The city of Differdange has put in place a subsidy for cat owners wishing to have their four-legged companion neutered or spayed. The subsidy amounts to:

  • 50 € for the castration of a male
  • 70 € for the neutering of a female.

The procedure is simple. You just have to fill in the form on the right with the requested annexes or go to the municipality’s customer service department with the following documents:

  • previously paid veterinarian invoice
  • bank account number, to which the subsidy can be transferred
  • proof that the cat has a subcutaneous microchip (upon presentation of the cat’s passport)

The grant is only for people living in Differdange who own the cat in question.
