Change of residence within the city of Differdange

In case of a change of residence within Differdange, every citizen is obliged to declare it to the citizens office within 8 days of occupying the new residence.

Any declaration must be made by the person concerned or by a representative, on the basis of a valid identity document and the title on the basis of which they acts, which is their:

  • spouse or registered partner with whom they usually reside
  • tutor or curator
  • legal administrator or ad hoc administrator
  • substitute decision-maker

Unemancipated minors are represented by the parent who exercises parental authority or by a tutor.

Documents to be presented:

  1. Valid identification (identity card or passport)
  2. Lease contract/certificate of accommodation (APPENDIX)
  3. For citizens of the EU and assimilated countries: registration certificate
  4. For third-country citizens who are family members of an EU citizen: family member card
  5. For third-country citizens who are not family members of an EU citizen: residence permit
  6. For car owners: Residential parking sticker (in case of change of residential area)

Change of residence in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

Any person who moves within the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg must, within 8 days of occupying the new residence, declare their presence to the citizens office of the municipal administration of their place of residence.

Any declaration must be made by the person concerned or by a representative, on the basis of a valid identity document and the title on the basis of which they are acting, and which is their:

  • spouse or registered partner with whom they usually reside
  • tutor or curator
  • legal administrator or ad hoc administrator
  • substitute decision-maker

Unemancipated minors are represented by the parent who exercises parental authority or by a tutor.

Documents to be presented:

  1. Valid national identity card or passport
  2. Lease contract/certificate of accommodation
  3. For citizens of the EU and assimilated countries: registration certificate
  4. For third-country citizens who are family members of an EU citizen: family member card
  5. For third-country citizens who are not family members of an EU citizen: residence permit
  6. If the data of the person concerned in the national register of natural persons is missing or informative, it is strongly recommended that they present the documents likely to verify their data relating to their marital status (e.g. marriage certificate, birth certificate, divorce, …).

Change of residence from abroad

Any person who establishes their habitual residence in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg must be declared to the citizens office of the municipal administration of his place of residence.

The declaration of arrival corresponds to the registration in the communal register of natural persons.

The modalities relating to the related declarations are fixed by the amended law of 19 June 2013 relating to the identification of natural persons.

All persons arriving in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg from abroad must declare their habitual residence to the population office of the municipal administration of their place of residence within eight days of their arrival. It should be noted that third-country nationals must register within three working days of their arrival on the territory.

Documents to be presented:

  1. Valid national identity card or passport
  2. Lease contract/certificate of accommodation (APPENDIX)
  3. Third-country nationals will also be required to present, if necessary, an entry visa or a residence permit or residence card issued by another Member State of the European Union and similar.
  4. If the person concerned has never been registered in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg before, it is strongly recommended that they present the documents likely to verify their family status (e.g. marriage certificate, birth certificates of the children, divorce, …).

Foreign nationals must also complete the formalities relating to freedom of movement and immigration. Persons concerned:

  • Citizens of the European Union and assimilated countries (registration certificate)
  • Third-country citizen (residence permit)
