Certificate of nationality

Certificates of nationality are issued by the Ministry of Justice to persons who hold Luxembourg nationality. The period of validity of a certificate of nationality may not exceed five years. Certificates of nationality are subject to a stamp duty:

• 2 € when their validity is one year or less 
• 4 € when their validity is more than one year but no more than five years

While the documents to be submitted in support of an application for a certificate of nationality vary from case to case, it is advisable to inform yourself in advance (indicating the surname, first names, address in Luxembourg or abroad, the date and place of birth of yourself and your parents) at the Ministry of Justice or the competent embassy or Luxembourg consulate abroad.
