On the night of 29-30 June 2024, our municipality was hit by violent storms that caused extensive flooding. We are relieved to inform you that no injuries have been reported, although the material damage is considerable.
Municipal services immediately took charge of security and clean-up efforts. We will continue to work throughout the week to remove debris and damaged items from affected homes. In this regard, the City Council would like to thank the Technical Department, all employees, the Volunteer Fire Department, and the Emergency Medical Services, whose considerable efforts have enabled us to limit the damage and relieve the population.
We would like to remind you that significant government grants are available to help you implement flood protection measures. These grants can cover up to 75% of the total cost, with ceilings of 20,000 € for single-family homes, 40,000 € for apartment buildings and 75,000 € for commercial or industrial buildings. These measures include the installation of fixed or removable water barriers.
The City of Differdange plans to provide financial support for these initiatives. The details of this support will be announced after the City Council meeting on 10 July.
