Waste management
The City of Differdange is actively concerned about its waste management. Through its door-to-door waste collection, the resource center and waste-prevention efforts the city offers modern waste management for private individuals but also for small and medium businesses.
Garbage collection and waste removal
Bulky waste
Collections are organised based on residents’ needs in coordination with our waste management department, but only on Mondays.
Collection requests must be made by Friday before the collection date:

According to the provisions of the Waste Management Law, the removal of bulky waste is charged at:
€20 per m3
+ €20 for transportation
Bulky waste may be placed on the street no earlier than 6 p.m. on the day before the respective collection and no later than 6 a.m. on the day of collection.

- Wooden furniture
- Mattresses/beds
- Rugs
Important!
The following items are NOT considered bulky waste, scrap metal, or household appliances:
- plastic bags,
- recyclables (paper/cardboard, glass bottles, Valorlux, organic waste, yard waste),
- items to be disposed of in the gray bin (mixed residual waste),
- hazardous and toxic waste (SDK),
- construction and demolition waste,
- old clothing, textiles, and shoes.
Residents of the City of Differdange can drop off their bulky items, household appliances, and scrap metal at the Differdange resource center free of charge.
Household appliances – Scrap metal
Collections are made only upon prior request on the dates listed in our waste collection calendar. The removal of household appliances and scrap metal is free of charge.

Clothes
The City organizes a door-to-door collection of used clothing once or twice a year.
The dates are listed in our eco-friendly calendar.
The following items are accepted
- clothing for women, men, and children
- table linens
- bedding
- wool blankets
- shoes tied in pairs
- rags
- damaged clothing that can no longer be worn
To prevent soiling, clothing, textiles, and shoes must be placed in plastic bags.
Clothing must be dry and not excessively soiled (e.g., no oil or paint stains).
The following items will not be accepted
- textiles with oil, paint, or other chemical stains
- small pieces of fabric
- any other waste
Circular Economy
As part of its “Climate City Contract,” the City has committed to improving its waste management and reducing the volume of waste. The circular economy is an integral part of this waste management strategy, aimed at using raw materials more efficiently and minimizing waste—reduce, reuse, recycle.

Foodsharing Point
The Foodsharing Point is located at the following address:

Opening hours:
- Monday to Friday: 8 am – 9 pm
- Saturday & Sunday: 10 am – 9 pm
The Foodsharing Point provides a public refrigerator and shelf where you can freely share and take food that would otherwise be thrown away. The fridge is maintained by volunteers who will ensure its proper functioning and uphold high standards of hygiene.

Gutt Geschier
The tool library was launched in partnership with the Gutt Geschier initiative of Ëmweltberodung Lëtzebuerg.
Gutt Geschier allows people to rent tools for home improvement and gardening while they’re working on projects at home. Collected from individuals and businesses, these tools form a shared inventory.
Thanks to the online reservation system, they are returned to the circulation for future users. This allows them to fully complete their life cycle, avoiding the purchase and production of new tools—a process that consumes significant amounts of energy and resources.
Gutt Geschier is an initiative that embodies both the principles of the circular economy and sharing.

Sharing Stations — sports equipment
In 2025, Differdange installed sharing stations for sports equipment at the following locations:
- Gerlache Park in Differdange, next to the ping-pong table.
- Hall O in Oberkorn, Rue Camille-Gira.
- Parc AS-Terrain in Differdange, Rue du Stade-Henri-Jungers.
These innovative lockers allow residents to borrow sports equipment for free via a self-service system using a mobile app.
These units are compact, secure, and self-powered, allowing them to be installed without needing to be connected to the power grid.
Repair Café
The Repair Café is an opportunity to repair broken items together and get professional help. It’s a place to meet and find inspiration.
The City of Differdange and the Kordall municipalities regularly organize Repair Cafés.
Minett Kompost
Organic waste: a precious, energy-rich resource
Minett Kompost is a Luxembourg-based composting facility for organic waste, operated by the “Minett Kompost” association
Waste sorting and recycling are essential for protecting the environment and conserving resources. Compostable waste accounts for approximately 44% of household waste.
Collected in the organic waste bin, organic waste is completely transformed at Minett Kompost—in a short period of time—into a valuable fertilizer (compost) and into renewable energy that is environmentally and climate-friendly.

For most people, wastewater disposal and treatment are issues that are not very visible in everyday life. Following the principle of “out of sight, out of mind,” many people give little thought to what happens to their wastewater after they flush the toilet or drain the sink.
Yet the wastewater system is much more complex: it consists of a sophisticated network of pipes and modern technologies that make a vital contribution to human health and the protection of aquatic environments.
Through simple daily actions, everyone can do their part to protect water. By acting responsibly, we can reduce pollution, prevent unnecessary overloading of wastewater treatment plants, and keep water treatment costs under control.
