Projects 2024

The year 2024 saw the emergence of four emblematic projects, the fruit of a partnership between citizens and the municipality. Two initiatives emerged from the committee, while two others won popular support on the Hoplr platform.

As part of the 2024 citizens’ budget, the Senior Citizens’ Council proposed the idea of benches for the elderly. The benches were designed and built by CIGL Differdange. In the spring of 2026, the city’s municipal services installed 50 benches in cemeteries and various neighborhoods.

The benches are specifically designed for elderly people, as they are higher than other park benches and also provide a support to help people sit down and stand up more easily. In addition, they offer a way to strike up a conversation comfortably, thereby helping to combat isolation.

This project serves as an excellent example of how citizens can advocate for their own interests and help shape specific projects.

The tool library was set up in partnership with Ëmweltberodung Lëtzebuerg’s Gutt Geschier initiative.

Gutt Geschier lets you rent DIY and gardening tools while you work on your home. Collected from private individuals and companies, these tools form a poolable stock. Thanks to the online reservation system, they are reinjected into the circuit of future users. In this way, they live out their life cycle to the full, avoiding the energy- and resource-hungry purchase and production of new tools.

Gutt Geschier‘s approach is in line with both the circular economy and the sharing principle.

Park Edmond Dune is home to a state-of-the-art Calisthenics area, combining nature and physical exercise.

Projects selected by citizen vote on Hoplr

Set up a tool-lending service for citizens to:

🔧 rent occasional tools
♻️ reduce unnecessary purchases and waste
🔄 promote the circular economy

Creation or extension of an outdoor space dedicated to calisthenics. The project aims to:

🏋️‍♂️ provide an outdoor training venue
💪 encourage a healthy, active lifestyle
🤝 foster community interaction around a shared passion

Projects submitted to citizen vote on Hoplr

Give people the opportunity to rent different tools for occasional (or one-off) use, in exchange for a fee and for a pre-determined period of time.

  • avoid unnecessary purchases: fewer purchases, more money to spend on real needs
  • less waste
  • more space in the cellar/house/apartment
  • reduced risk of fire

Give dogs enough space in the neighborhood so they can enjoy nature and avoid soiling children’s playgrounds and public areas. Dogs will have their own entertainment area in a dedicated zone, and owners can supervise activities.

The minigolf project in Differdange is an intergenerational project. Minigolf is a leisure activity enjoyed by all age groups. Whether children play with each other, with their parents or grandparents, or with groups of friends, everyone can test their skills at minigolf, where skill and concentration are required.

A minigolf course in Differdange would be an excellent leisure offer for local residents, especially as minigolf is often associated with vacations, enabling people who can’t afford to go on vacation to take advantage of this offer. It would also be an additional attraction for the tourist offer. There are no minigolf courses in the vicinity, so it would be an added value for Differdange.

An outdoor area specially designed for calisthenics. It is equipped with various structures for a wide range of bodyweight exercises. These parks are designed to provide an optimal environment for exercising outdoors, encouraging the development of strength, agility and flexibility, while promoting physical exercise in the community.

Citizens can exercise free of charge and close to home, encouraging them to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Citizens can socialize through a shared interest in gymnastics.

Projects selected by the Supervisory Committee

Provide access to IT, coding and office automation for all children and adults in Differdange who would like to learn these skills. Bringing together children from different schools and motivated adults around the same passion.

This project was submitted by Code Club Luxembourg, a non-profit organization run entirely by a community of volunteers, whose aim is to awaken children’s interest in digital creation.

The installation of new benches, well distributed and adapted to senior citizens, in the various cemeteries will have the following advantages:

  • cemeteries will have a more welcoming appearance
  • seniors and other cemetery visitors will feel more comfortable and appreciated
  • visitors can sit more comfortably on a bench to memorialize their departed loved ones
  • senior citizens or people with walking difficulties will be able to take breaks as they pass through the cemetery
