For most people, wastewater disposal and treatment are issues that are not very visible in everyday life. Following the principle of “out of sight, out of mind,” many people give little thought to what happens to their wastewater after they flush the toilet or drain the sink.
Yet the wastewater system is much more complex: it consists of a sophisticated network of pipes and modern technologies that make a vital contribution to human health and the protection of aquatic environments.
Through simple daily actions, you can help protect water. By being mindful of your actions, you can reduce pollution, prevent unnecessary overloading of wastewater treatment plants, and keep water treatment costs under control.
With an average water consumption of 135 liters per person per day, households account for 60% of drinking water consumption in Luxembourg.
Only 4% of our drinking water consumption is used for food-related purposes, such as drinking or preparing meals. The rest is used primarily for personal hygiene and cleaning.
