A structured approach for the energy renovation of houses in Differdange
From 2023 to 2025, Klima-Agence carries out the Zesumme renovéieren pilot project in collaboration with the city of Differdange and with the support of the European Union.
When Klima-Agence was looking for a partner municipality for its ‘Zesumme renovéieren’ pilot project in 2022, Differdange was chosen because of the large number of buildings suitable for renovation. The city has around 4,000 homes built before 1996 that are particularly suitable for energy renovation.
As part of the project, it was possible to classify 2,500 of these homes as one of the 20 types of building in Differdange. Half of them are classified as municipal heritage.
As a partner municipality in the European ‘NetZeroCities’ project, the town of Differdange is aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. The energy renovation of the 4,000 or so residential buildings in the urban area is a key element on the road to carbon neutrality.
The pilot project began on 24 April 2023 with a kick-off meeting attended by 140 people. By the closing date for registrations on 22 November 2024, 197 participants had signed up.
They will continue to be supported by the Klima-Agence District manager in the energy renovation of their homes until the end of 2025.
