September 16–22 — Differdange & Kordall: Mobility for Everyone, for Intergenerational Fairness
From September 16 to 22, Differdange is celebrating European Mobility Week together with the municipalities of the Chiers Valley—Sanem, Pétange, and Käerjeng. Seven days of events, inaugurations, conferences, workshops, and celebrations to discover the city in a new way: on foot, by bike, by bus, or by train. This year’s event is part of the Net Zero Déifferdeng 2030 initiative and highlights intergenerational equity: mobility designed for children and seniors alike, for seasoned cyclists and beginners alike.

Mobility Lounge by Aquasud
After a bike ride, a walk, or a tour of the activities, take a break at Aquasud’s Mobility Lounge: a space dedicated to relaxation and well-being, fitness, and much more. Because sustainable mobility is also about taking care of yourself.

🗓️ Wednesday, September 16 — the launch
🥐 Croissants to say thank you!
To mark the start of the week, the City and its partners will be meeting residents starting at 6 a.m. at train stations and bus stops to hand out croissants and program brochures—a friendly thank-you to those who choose sustainable transportation.
🛠 Inauguration of permanent measures
Differdange is inaugurating several sustainable improvements: two stairways equipped with bike chutes (on Rue Alexandre and the city terraces) to facilitate access to lower levels, and new 30 km/h zones that calm traffic and make the streets safer for everyone.
🍻 Mobility Pub Quiz with Mam Klot
In the evening, the Schräinerei is hosting a pub quiz dedicated to mobility: transportation, cycling, sustainable cities, and many other surprises—all in good company over a drink.
📍 Register on the Schräinerei website: limited seating.
🗓️ Thursday, September 17 — Innovations and Inspiration
🛠 Inauguration of Permanent Measures II
Second wave of inaugurations:
Air quality sensors (BETTAir technology) for real-time monitoring of the urban environment;
A new Vël’OK mobile station to promote sustainable transportation during events;
Ten new bike racks located throughout the city;
New ramps and lowered curbs for improved accessibility;
Traffic signs and automatic bollards near schools to ensure the safety of young children;
The first results of the European project NextLogic on carbon-free urban logistics.
🐍 Launch of Traffic Snake
Ten classes at Oberkorn Elementary School are participating in Traffic Snake: for two weeks, every student who walks, bikes, or takes the bus to school receives a sticker to place on a large snake displayed at the school. A game that turns the commute to school into a collective challenge and fosters good habits from an early age.
📍 Oberkorn Elementary School: morning.
🌏 Conference: Fräiheet — Mam Vëlo der Welt entgéint
On March 16, 2024, André Weis and Maryse Ernzer set out from Echternach by bike, heading for Tokyo. A year later, they arrived—after 307 days on the road, carrying 40 kg of luggage each, and traveling through Turkey and Japan. André Weis shares this extraordinary adventure: unexpected encounters, nights at -11 °C on the Tibetan Plateau, the roads of Kyrgyzstan, and the sight of Mount Fuji appearing around a bend.

🗓️ Friday, September 18 — Rethinking Public Space
🌳 Park(ing) Day
Differdange is joining the global citizen-led initiative Park(ing) Day: parking spaces are transformed, for one day, into living spaces—places for rest, greenery, socializing, and creativity. A concrete way to challenge the role of cars on our streets and imagine what else this space could offer.
📍 Downtown: all day.
🎤 Conference: The City of Tomorrow—Close, Mobile, Livable
What if our cities could take care of us? The Aalt Stadhaus is hosting a special conference followed by a roundtable discussion featuring Claude Meisch, Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning, as well as representatives from Differdange and the Eurometropolis of Strasbourg.

🗺 Community Workshop: D’Tentakele vun der Transversale
Differdange is getting a new major cycling route: the Transversale, the first continuous cycling route crossing the city from one end to the other. But a Transversale is only useful if you can actually get to it! Together, on our bikes, we’ll map out the “tentacles”—the paths, alleys, and connections that link each neighborhood to the new route.
🎉 Inauguration of the Transversale and Grand Bike Tour
At 10:30 a.m., the official inauguration of the Transversale (Haneboesch industrial zone / roundabout, Rue des Ligures). After a short ceremony, cycling groups from the municipalities of the Chiers Valley—and anyone else interested—will set off at 10:45 a.m. for a grand bike tour through the city. The tour will end at Gerlache Park around 12:30 p.m., where you’ll find entertainment, food trucks, and a “Pimp My Bike” booth.
🎪 Moving in the park!
Starting at noon at Gerlache Park: six bounce houses and a huge inflatable obstacle course for kids, food trucks, a Pimp My Bike booth to customize your bike (and share the result on Instagram), and, of course, music.
📍 Gerlache Park: 12 p.m.–7 p.m.
🔬 Luxembourg Science Center — Cycling from a Scientific Perspective
Cycling like you’ve never seen it before! Scientific experiments, interactive challenges, and fun demonstrations: test drivetrain systems, measure your power in watts, compare your performance to that of a professional cyclist, and take on skill challenges. You’ll also discover different types of bikes and their uses.
Children, youth, adults, and seniors do not use the city in the same way. This forum offers an open discussion, informed by audience testimonials, on how to design public spaces and mobility systems that are inclusive, safer, and more accessible for everyone.
A movie screening unlike any other: thanks to Aquasud’s exercise bike teams, the electricity needed for the screening is generated by pedaling. A fun, community-oriented experience that concretely illustrates the connection between energy, mobility, and civic engagement.
📍 Near Aquasud — 7:30 p.m. — Duration: 2 hours.

💬 Panel Discussion: Women in Cycling
How can we make cycling more accessible, safer, and more appealing to women? A lively discussion with the audience, organized by the Women in Cycling initiative, featuring Ms. Goldschmidt, president of Women in Cycling Luxembourg.
On Monday morning, the streets around elementary schools are reserved for children: traffic is blocked off, chalk is handed out, and the asphalt becomes a giant white canvas. Each student draws their vision of a more beautiful, gentler, freer city—bicycles, trees, colorful paths, dreams sketched right onto the street.

☕ Participatory workshop: invisible mobility
Do you get around less than you used to? Do certain routes seem too complicated, too exposed, or too uncertain to you? Your experience can make a difference! This participatory workshop focuses on the invisible barriers faced by seniors and people with limited mobility. Together, let’s identify these obstacles and find practical solutions—in a friendly atmosphere, over coffee and some pastries.
