Social Assistance Is a Right — and It’s Free

The Differdange Social Welfare Office reminds residents that anyone who meets the legal requirements is entitled to social assistance, without going through a paid intermediary. Advice, information, and support are provided free of charge.

In Luxembourg, social assistance is a right. Any individual or family who meets the conditions set out by law is entitled to it, and access to this right should be free.

Social welfare offices are there to advise, inform, guide, and support you free of charge throughout the entire process.

Beware of Paid Intermediaries

Some private providers offer, for a fee, to help you apply for social assistance and benefits. Please be aware that paying an intermediary in no way guarantees that you will receive assistance. On the contrary, these fees may put additional strain on your budget, even though free support is available.

Before committing to anything or making any payment, contact the social welfare office responsible for your municipality.
