Drinking Water Supply: Let’s Reduce Our Consumption Together on October 19 and 20

Because of work on the Syndicat des eaux du sud (SES) network, the City of Differdange will not be supplied by its usual provider from the evening of Sunday, October 18, until the morning of Wednesday, October 21. No water outage is planned, but the City is counting on every resident to reduce their water consumption by at least 20% on Monday, October 19, and Tuesday, October 20.

No Outage Planned — But Consumption Must Be Adjusted

During the work, the City will provide water from its own reserves and a backup supply with limited flow. Under normal conditions, water will therefore continue to run from your faucet.

However, for these two days to go by without interruption, overall consumption must decrease. Every action counts: if all residents reduce their consumption by at least 20% on Monday and Tuesday, the reserves will be sufficient.

What Are the Possible Impacts?

  • Some neighborhoods may experience reduced water pressure.
  • Discolored or brownish water is possible: temporary changes to the network supply can loosen deposits in the pipes. This water is not safe to drink; run the cold water until it becomes clear again.
  • Only if the work is unexpectedly extended, a water shortage in higher-elevation areas cannot be completely ruled out. This risk remains low and unlikely.

What You Can Do on Monday, October 19, and Tuesday, October 20, 2026

Please follow these guidelines during these two days:

  • Limit water consumption to essential needs;
  • Do not fill or clean swimming pools;
  • Do not water the garden;
  • Do not wash cars;
  • Postpone major cleaning tasks (patios, building exteriors, laundry, etc.);
  • If the water is discolored, do not drink it and run the cold water until it is clear again.

Starting Wednesday, October 21

The network will return to its normal configuration, and regular consumption can resume. Discolored water may still occur temporarily; if so, simply run the cold water until it becomes clear again.
